Ingredients

Scale

For the Patties

  • 2 pounds ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 medium onion (finely diced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Gravy

  • 16 ounces mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1 medium onion (sliced)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Patty Preparation: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, finely diced onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined to avoid tough patties. Then, form the mixture into 6 oval-shaped patties, making a small dimple in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.
  2. Cook Patties: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and keep them warm while you prepare the gravy.
  3. Make Gravy: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and sliced onion and sauté until they are soft and browned, about 5-7 minutes. Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and stir to coat. Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring continuously to prevent lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste. Allow the gravy to simmer until it thickens, around 5 minutes.
  4. Finish: Return the cooked patties to the skillet with the mushroom gravy. Simmer everything together for an additional 5 minutes to meld the flavors and heat the patties through. Serve hot, spooning the rich mushroom gravy over the steaks for a classic comfort meal.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • For gluten-free version, replace breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs and use gluten-free flour for the gravy.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
  • Make sure not to overmix the beef mixture to keep patties tender.
