Ingredients

Scale

Apple Mixture

  • 6 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg

Topping

  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crockpot: Grease the inside of your crockpot generously with butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking and to help with easy cleanup.
  2. Add the apples and spices: Place the peeled and sliced apples into the greased crockpot. Sprinkle the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg evenly over the apples to coat them with a fragrant, sweet spice mixture.
  3. Mix the topping: In a separate bowl, combine the old-fashioned oats, brown sugar, flour, and melted butter. Stir until the mixture is crumbly and evenly coated with the butter.
  4. Assemble and cook: Evenly sprinkle the oat topping over the apple mixture in the crockpot, covering the apples as much as possible. Cover the crockpot with its lid.
  5. Cook: Set the crockpot to low and cook for 4 hours. The apples will soften into a tender filling, and the topping will become golden and crispy.
  6. Serve: Carefully spoon the dessert into bowls. It’s delicious served warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • You can substitute apples with pears or peaches for variation.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free oats and substitute flour with almond flour or gluten-free flour.
  • If you prefer a sweeter dessert, increase sugar amounts slightly.
  • Ensure apples are sliced evenly for uniform cooking.
  • To prevent topping from getting soggy, avoid lifting the lid during cooking where possible.
