Ingredients

Scale

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon cracked red pepper flakes

Main Ingredients

  • 2 (3 ounce) packages ramen noodles, seasoning packets discarded
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 pound sirloin steak, trimmed of fat and sliced into 1 1/2-inch strips (about 1/4-inch thickness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch until combined and lump-free. Add the beef broth, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cracked red pepper flakes. Whisk everything thoroughly and set aside.
  2. Cook the ramen noodles: Bring a medium pot of water to a boil. Add the ramen noodles and cook just until tender, about 2-3 minutes. Drain and rinse under cold water to stop cooking. Drizzle the noodles with 1 teaspoon of sesame oil to prevent sticking and set aside.
  3. Cook the steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Season the sirloin steak strips with kosher salt and black pepper. Once the skillet is hot and shimmering, add the steak in a single layer. Let it cook undisturbed for about 3 minutes to brown well on one side. Stir and cook for another 2 minutes until the steak is cooked through. Remove the steak from the skillet and drain off any excess grease.
  4. Steam the broccoli: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and add the broccoli florets. Pour 1/2 cup water into the skillet and cover with a lid. Steam the broccoli for about 2 minutes until bright green and fork-tender but still crisp.
  5. Combine steak and noodles: Return the cooked steak strips to the skillet with the broccoli. Add the cooked ramen noodles as well.
  6. Add the sauce and finish cooking: Stir the prepared sauce once more, then pour it over the steak, broccoli, and noodles in the skillet. Using tongs, gently toss everything together while cooking for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats all ingredients, heating through evenly.
  7. Serve: Transfer the stir fry to serving plates and garnish with sesame seeds. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Discard the ramen seasoning packets as they are not used in this recipe.
  • To prevent the broccoli from becoming mushy, do not oversteam; it should remain bright green and slightly crisp.
  • For a spicier version, increase the cracked red pepper flakes as desired.
  • If sirloin steak is not available, flank or skirt steak can be used as alternatives.
  • This dish is best served fresh but can be reheated gently on the stovetop or microwave.
