Sauce
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/3 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tablespoon grated ginger
- 1/8 teaspoon cracked red pepper flakes
Main Ingredients
- 2 (3 ounce) packages ramen noodles, seasoning packets discarded
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
- 1 pound sirloin steak, trimmed of fat and sliced into 1 1/2-inch strips (about 1/4-inch thickness)
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
- 1/2 cup water
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- Make the sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch until combined and lump-free. Add the beef broth, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cracked red pepper flakes. Whisk everything thoroughly and set aside.
- Cook the ramen noodles: Bring a medium pot of water to a boil. Add the ramen noodles and cook just until tender, about 2-3 minutes. Drain and rinse under cold water to stop cooking. Drizzle the noodles with 1 teaspoon of sesame oil to prevent sticking and set aside.
- Cook the steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Season the sirloin steak strips with kosher salt and black pepper. Once the skillet is hot and shimmering, add the steak in a single layer. Let it cook undisturbed for about 3 minutes to brown well on one side. Stir and cook for another 2 minutes until the steak is cooked through. Remove the steak from the skillet and drain off any excess grease.
- Steam the broccoli: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and add the broccoli florets. Pour 1/2 cup water into the skillet and cover with a lid. Steam the broccoli for about 2 minutes until bright green and fork-tender but still crisp.
- Combine steak and noodles: Return the cooked steak strips to the skillet with the broccoli. Add the cooked ramen noodles as well.
- Add the sauce and finish cooking: Stir the prepared sauce once more, then pour it over the steak, broccoli, and noodles in the skillet. Using tongs, gently toss everything together while cooking for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats all ingredients, heating through evenly.
- Serve: Transfer the stir fry to serving plates and garnish with sesame seeds. Serve immediately while hot.
Notes
- Discard the ramen seasoning packets as they are not used in this recipe.
- To prevent the broccoli from becoming mushy, do not oversteam; it should remain bright green and slightly crisp.
- For a spicier version, increase the cracked red pepper flakes as desired.
- If sirloin steak is not available, flank or skirt steak can be used as alternatives.
- This dish is best served fresh but can be reheated gently on the stovetop or microwave.
