Crispy and delicious Air Fryer Apple Fries coated in a cinnamon-sugar panko breadcrumb crust. These apple fries are a healthier alternative to traditional fried snacks, perfect for a sweet treat or dessert that’s easy to make using an air fryer.

Ingredients

Scale

Apples

  • 2 large apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith work great)

Coating

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Prep Apples: Peel the apples if desired, then cut them into fry-like sticks. Pat the apple sticks dry with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture, which helps the coating stick better.
  2. Set Up Coating Stations: Prepare three bowls: one with all-purpose flour, one with a whisked mixture of egg and milk, and one with a blend of panko breadcrumbs, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon.
  3. Coat Apples: Take each apple stick and dredge it first in the flour, ensuring a light coating. Then dip it into the egg and milk mixture, followed by rolling it thoroughly in the cinnamon sugar and panko breadcrumb mixture. Make sure each stick is evenly coated.
  4. Prepare for Air Frying: Lightly spray the coated apple fries with nonstick cooking spray to encourage crispness during cooking. Place them in a single layer inside the air fryer basket, avoiding overcrowding. If necessary, cook in batches.
  5. Air Fry: Cook the apple fries at 380°F (190°C) for 7–9 minutes. Halfway through the cooking time, shake or toss the basket gently to ensure they cook evenly and achieve a golden, crispy texture.
  6. Serve: Once done, remove the apple fries and serve warm with your choice of dipping sauces such as caramel dip, yogurt, or whipped cream for a sweet and satisfying snack or dessert.

Notes

  • Peeling the apples is optional; leaving the skin on adds extra fiber and nutrients.
  • Choose firm apple varieties like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith for the best texture that holds up well during cooking.
  • Make sure the apple sticks are dry before coating to help the breading adhere better.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
  • For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of nutmeg or allspice to the breadcrumb mixture.
